Denison Environmental Services (DES) operated the treatment plant at the Kam Kotia site near Timmins from 2003 through 2009.
This property was owned by the Crown, and was one of the most challenging sites to manage due to the physical layout and nature of the acid mine drainage.
The Kam Kotia property produced gold, silver, copper and zinc concentrates. It operated intermittently from 1942 to 1972.
Acid Mine drainage from the abandoned site had adversely impacted the receiving environment. The MNDM has made a significant investment to address the environmental issues at Kam Kotia.
